“So no Igbo man on the list” – Reactions as Forbes releases list of richest people in the world as of March 2024

There are several mixed reactions online as Forbes releases the list of richest people in the world as of March 2024.

On Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024, Forbes said there are more billionaires in 2024 despite inflation and political unrest.

According to Forbes, there are now 2,781 billionaires globally – rising by 141 compared to 2023 data and 26 more than the record set in 2021.

Forbes said; “They are richer than ever, worth $14.2 trillion in the aggregate, up by $ 2 trillion from 2023 and $1.1 trillion above the previous record, also set in 2021.”

A quick check confirmed that Aliko Dangote worth $13.4B, Mike Adenuga worth $6.7B, Abdulsamad Rabiu worth $5.2B, and Femi Otedola worth $1.4b are the only Nigerians in the Forbes 2024 list of Richest people in the world.

This development did not sit down well with some Nigerians most especially Igbo people as they strongly criticized the Forbes List.

Dangote, chairman of Dangote Cement, maintained his top position as the richest man in Africa. His fortune rose to $13.4 billion earning him the 144th position, according to Forbes.

With a $6.7 billion net worth, Adenuga, chairman of Globacom, a telecommunication company in Nigeria, was ranked at 409th spot.

Rabiu, chairman of BUA Group, whose net worth was estimated at $5.2 billion, was placed at the 581 st position.

Celebrity billionaire, Femi Otedola, the Chairman of Geregu Power Power and also the Chairman of First Bank Holdings was ranked 2152 spot with a networth of $1.4BILLION.
