Nigerian fast-rising music star, Blessing Akiode, popularly known as Candy Bleakz, has revealed how she felt when musician, Olamide, signed her colleague, Temmie Ovwasa, into his record label, YBNL.
During her interview with ‘trending on Hip TV’, Candy Bleakz revealed that she is pained when Olamide publicly announced Temmie Ovwasa.
It is crucial to know that Olamide reached out to Temmie in 2015 and signed into his music label, which earned her the name YBNL Princess. She left the label in 2020 after having a disagreement with her boss.
However, Candy Bleakz, born and bred in Epe, Lagos, revealed that she was supposed to be the YBNL princess, questioning why Badoo signed Temmie.
The 24-year-old female rapper rose to stardom after her 2022 hit single, Tikuku. She is currently signed under the Chocolate city music.
She also attended Onabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State where she started studying Medicine before pursing her career as a musician.
Candy also shared challenges in the industry as a female artist while conversing on Hip TV, stating that ladies face a lot in the music ground whether they are beautiful or not.
Recounting her humble journey, Candy Bleakz, who recently dropped her hit track, “Wale (Remix)” featuring Simi, emphasized that her success was a combination of God’s grace and her diligent efforts.
The rapper said; “The day Baddo (Olamide) unveiled Temmie Ovwasa, she is my friend but I was really sad. I was supposed to be the YBNL Princess. I was like, ‘Why did they sign someone else?.”
Also speaking on the struggles of being a female artist in Nigeria, Candy said; “For a female artist, when you’re pretty it’s a problem, when you’re ugly it’s a problem.
When you’re too sexy it’s an issue and when you are not it’s an issue. Because I’m bringing something to the table but you will see comments like, ‘She’s not fine. She’s not dressing sexy.
And at the same time, when she is fine they would want her to bring something to the table”.
