VIDEO: Moments Teni Walked Out On President Buhari After Receiving Her National Award, Stirs Mixed Reactions

Nigerian superstar singer, Teniola Apata’s has stirs mixed reactions following claims that she ‘disrespect’ President Muhammadu Buhari while receiving the National Honors award.

A viral video showing Teni refusing to shake hands with the president while receiving the award surfaced online at the early hours of Wednesday.

While many felt the singer did well for subtly expressing the youth’s displeasure with the president, others felt she should have rejected the award if she truly wanted to register her displeasure with the president.

Reacting to the video, Alfre Ebi James wrote: “Na sense she no get. Best she should have don is to reject the award like Prof Chinua Achebe did.

The office of the president is sacrosanct and must be accorded the utmost respect, regardless of who is there. The fact that you’re happy with her behaviour is surprising.”

On his part, @Felemax said the singer should be subjected to imprisonment and hard labour for her actions.

the act is tantamount to imprisonment with hard Labour. If she was not pleased she should’ve turned down her nomination and rejected it,” he wrote.

Justifying Teni’s decision to subtly register her displeasure, @_larry101 wrote “Mumu, her father was killed in one of the coups. The evil that men do… Make una dey do nonsense.”

Also renowned journalist, David Hundeyin who seemed pleased with the musician’s action wrote “I’m almost ashamed to come from this generation of Nigerian men. See a woman displaying the balls that the rest of us apparently couldn’t.”
