Veteran Nollywood actor John Okafor widely recognized as Mr. Ibu will be extending his stay in the hospital as he continues his recovery journey. This decision follows the amputation of one of his legs a month ago.
The actorโs health has reportedly worsened to the extent that he now communicates infrequently, and it has been revealed that he recently underwent a subsequent surgical procedure, involving the removal of a portion of the same leg that underwent amputation last month.
Concerns have escalated as another veteran actor, Amaechi Muonagor, experiences declining health. He is presently admitted to Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi, Anambra State, where he has been receiving medical care for more than two months.
The current President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Dr. Emeka Rollas, provided an update on the health of the ailing actors during a telephone conversation with our reporter. He conveyed a sense of resignation to fate regarding the two actorsโ conditions.
โAs I communicate with you, Mr. Ibu rarely engages in conversation, and he has undergone yet another leg amputation,โ Rollas remarked.
Rollas, who, along with some colleagues, visited Muonagor at the Intensive Care Unit of Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi, described the actorโs health as distressing, noting that he is presently a mere semblance of his former self.
โYou will shed tears if you see Amaechi Muonagor now, his legs are completely paralyzed. Iโm calling on all fans and well wishers of the actor to join hands with other philanthropic Nigerians to support him in this dire time,โ Rollas said.
He disclosed that he has sanctioned the transfer of N250,000 from the AGN Trust Fund to the bank account of the ailing actor. However, he acknowledged that this amount might not be sufficient considering Muonagorโs history with the Guild HMO and insurance policy.
Nevertheless, Rollas encouraged aspiring actors to make an effort to enroll in the AGN HMO and Insurance programs.
Several weeks ago, Amaechi Monagorโs cousin, Tony, posted an update on the actorโs health on Facebook. He disclosed that Monagor was fighting for his life, having been diagnosed with kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke during his three-week hospitalization.
In his post, Tony wrote, โThis picture was taken two weeks ago when I visited my cousin Amaechi Monagor (Aguiyi) at the Nnewi Teaching Hospital. I initially had wanted to quietly assist as much as I could but later decided to make this post to clarify some things so that my friends, fans, and Amaechiโs fans, and indeed the online community can be better informed.
โAmaechi is currently down with kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke. He had been managing his diabetes over the years and living his life. He is at present undergoing weekly dialysis and other treatments at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi,โ Tony wrote.
