Nigerian Afrobeats singer Davido educates American content creator, Kai Cenat , who recently visited Nigeria, on the diverse tribes within the country.
The two have been exploring the city together ever since he arrived in Lagos a few days ago. Davido is shown in a recent video teaching the YouTuber a crash course on Nigerian culture.
Davido explained that Nigeria is home to three major tribes – the Yoruba, Igbo, and Benin. Each tribe has its own unique customs, languages, and traditions that contribute to the rich cultural tapestry of the country.
He informed Kai Cenat that his wife is from the Igbo clan and that his mother was originally from Benin, Edo state.
In his words, Davido said: “We have three tribes in Nigeria. There’s Yoruba. My father is Yoruba. And in Nigeria, wherever your father is from, that’s where you are really from. So my father is Yoruba. My wife is from Igbo. And my mother is from Benin. I’m three tribes in one.”
Contrary to the Timeless singer’s claim, the National Bureau of Statistics revealed that there are 371 tribes in Nigeria, the majority of which are Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba.
Many internet users were displeased by this and hurried to social media to ask if he had forgotten about other tribes.
