Nollywood sensation, Funke Akindele, has recently shed light on her early struggles in the Nigerian movie industry.
Funke Akindele spoke about how she was denied roles in some major movies because they didn’t deem her to be ‘fine’.
Akindele, known for her prolific career and indomitable spirit, opened up about the harsh judgments she faced on the latest episode of Toke moments.
The movie star said that she was denied roles even in Yoruba movies because of her facial looks. All the movie producers gave her was minor roles and this had left her in tears.
Akindele stated, “I remember people telling me, ‘You are not fine. You don’t have a$$. You don’t have b00bs. You will not be in this film. And, I remember crying. A lot of times I would cry, break down, get into the bathroom and cry.”
Despite the early setbacks, Funke Akindele’s love for acting remained unshakable. She diligently refined her skills, directing her attention towards her distinct strengths rather than dwelling on any perceived shortcomings.
As a result, she now proudly stands as one of Nigeria’s most cherished actresses, a living testament to her unwavering determination and exceptional talent.
