First African song – Wizkid ‘Essence’ surpasses 1 billion spins, wins iHeartRadio Titanium award (Video)

Grammy award-winning Nigerian singers Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid, and Temilade Openiyi, aka Tems, have been honored as the first African recipients of the American podcast, iHeartRadio Titanium Award.

The Titanium Award is bestowed upon artists whose songs have amassed 1 billion spins across iHeartRadio stations in the United States.

Wizkid and Tems received the accolade after their hit song ‘Essence’ grossed 1 billion spins across iHeartRadio stations.

The song, ‘Essence’, has been bagging awards for the artistes since its release in 2021. It won the 2022 BET award in the category of best collaboration. Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ scooped five prizes at the 15th edition of Headies awards.

Muyiwa Awoniyi, Tems’ manager, made the announcement via a video clip of the iHeartRadio Titanium award on his Instastory. The video was shared on Wizkidnews.
